Happiness Is Creativity; Creativity Is Happiness
Happiness is creativity. Creativity is happiness.
Think about it. As crafters, we are often happiest when we are up to our elbows in our latest project.
And the pleasure from sitting back and looking at the completed item is immeasurable.
A post on Facebook this morning put it clearly into words for me. “Five Easy Ways To Ground Yourself When You Feel Overwhelmed”. I especially like the first one, to be creative.
I have dealt with depression and anxiety for a number of years. It's a long story I won't get into here, but I discovered something very important about myself.
I am creative. I am an artist.
Maybe not in the stereotypical way. I don't draw or paint or anything like that.
But I do create. My medium is fabric and yarn.
Creativity takes many forms. For some it is paint. Others use wood, music, words, yarn, clay, photography, fabric, food… The list could go on and on.
There is just something so calming and centering about losing yourself in your creations. Taking a raw material and turning it into that vision you have.
It's really a sort of high for me. And sometimes I find myself chasing that high. Then chaos ensues and I have to rein myself in. It's sort of a happy chaos, but it's unproductive.
That's when I rely on the other four steps in the article to get back on track. And they really do work. At one time or another, I have used them all.
So, what makes you happy? Share some of your creations. Who knows, maybe you will inspire someone. That would be cool.
